|Hye Young Kim was born in 1982 in the city of Gongju in South Korea. She received her BFA in painting from Korea University, South Korea in 2007, and her MFA in painting at Washington University in St. Louis in 2009 and second MFA in Art and Technology at University of Florida in 2013. Currently she is teaching as Assistant Professor of Art at Winston-Salem State University in North Carolina since 2013.
As a video performance/installation artist, she has investigated human existence with physical and psychological traces by integrating traditional art-making techniques with experimental video and installation. Kim’s work has been exhibited throughout the United States, Europe and Asia. Recently, her works were exhibited in Currents 2015: Santa Fe New Media Festivals in Santa Fe; FILE 2015: Electronic Language International Festival, in São Paulo, Brazil; Digital Native Film Festival in New Orleans; Contemporary Art Ruhr in Essen, Germany; and Vector 2014: Video Game + Art Convergence Festival in Toronto, Canada. She has held art residencies: Bresler Resident at VisArts at Rockville; Currents Santa Fe Art Institute Residency in Santa Fe; Gebart in Zalaegerszeg, Hungary and SKICC in Dunaújváros
